Once upon a time

Legends say that the Lamenter chapter is based on Primarch Sanguinius’ genotype, corrected in order to avoid any genetic deficiency. It was said this experiment was a succes, and that all tragedies undergone by the chapter was pure fate. Legends say any Lamenter has a palpable aura of mischance
But the Adeptus Astartes is above legend.
During his century long crusade in punishment for their doings during Badab War, the Chapter was quasi destroyed in the claws of hive fleet Kraken. Since these tragic events, only three companies cross the galaxy in a quest of redemption, closely supervised by the Ordo Malleus of the Holy Inquisition.
In 980 M41, Third Company is engaged against a heretic cult on the planet of Iria IV, a desertic world digged of kilometres long underground complex. During a minor engagement, contact is lost with Chaplain Kobal, put in a Dreadnought sarcophagus two centuries before. It soon appears that the heretics may have have taken the Dreadnought to profane it. Sergeant Amith’s Scout team is charged with finding back the sarcophagus and puting a radio beacon on it in order to organize a recovery operation. After finding the Dreadnought near his last known position, the Scouts get out of the caves in order to guide down the Thunderhawk, just to discover that blood is raining outside. A storm is rising around, first sign of an unexpected magnetic cyclone. Still, the Thunderhawk achieves his landing, and the mission takes place without event. The Techmarines note with horror that Kobal’s body has disappeared.
At this moment, the Astropaths of the cruiser Blade of Despair feel a powerful Warp anomaly, foresee of a coming major disruption, and call back the Thunderhawk rather than risking to lose contact with it. The mission has therefore not enough time to seek the Chaplain’s body and take off. Company Captain Tetran can’t intervene, being under the close watch of Inquisitor Damian Berion of the Ordo Malleus, but the Scout team refuse to come back to the cruiser and let Kobal’s body into the hands of the heretics and go down again into the darkness of the complex. Torn between loyalty to his chapter and suspiciousness of the Inquisitor, Tetran only can watch them go without telling Inquisitor Berion.
As the Inquisitor demands Exterminatus on the world, the Scouts disappear into the underground to make sure that the Chaplain’s body rest in peace. Will they success in preventing the heretics to desecrate Kobal’s body, or will their intervention cause the Inquisition’s wrath ?

J'aime.
Par contre, il manquait un mot à la fin ("the Scouts disappear into the underground to make sure that the Chaplain’s body rest in peace."), donc j'ai pris la liberté de le corriger.

*Blade of Despair, Blade of Despair, ici Sergent Scout Amith, répondez*

Enfin, the thing we know.
Yes, the thing you know.

*****

*Tear 1, ici Sergent Scout Amith.

The heretic who had gone on guard at the entrance of the cave wore an old blue dress many times patched up, and sandals. It was, all said and done, a normal man, if you dismissed the third eye which stood out of his cheek, and the bloody crater on the middle of his forehead.
*The way is clear*, voxed Thoric, lowering his sniper rifle.
*Deploy and secure the room* Amith transmitted to the squad.
The Scouts entered and deployed with all the efficience given by many years of practice. The cave was about five metres high, and was circular. A little bit too much circular for a natural cave, did note Amith.
Revered Brother-Dreadnought Kobal was sagged in the center, his chest pulled down like a jumping jack to which somebody would have cut the strings. His short range communicators seemed switch off, as was his searchlight despite the darkness.
Brother-Chaplain ?
Silence.
Looking closer, the sarcophagus was covered with scrapes and las shot impacts. Two canons of his assaultcanon had partly melted, maybe after too many shots. His long range antenna had been torn off, which explained that the sarcophagus was elsewhere than his last known position.
A bolt salvo interrupted his inquiries. Turning around, he saw a man in blue toga sliding down the wall, a twenty centimetres hole in his chest. Marr verified his bolt clip looking at the Sergeant.
He was sneeking in a fault, brother-sergeant. I had to intervene before he could shoot.
The echo was already passing away, but the risk of having been heard was still here.

*Blade of Despair, Blade of Despair, Scout Sergeant Amith talking, please answer.*
*Blade of Despair talking, what’s the situation ?*
*Objective fulfilled. Kobal found out, critically damaged. Aerial link needed with urgency*
*Relay sent. Prepare yourself to receive it at basic coordinates. End of communication.*
*Received. End of communication.*

Amith came back to his study of the sarcophagus. The bloody heart, the chapter’s symbol, was partly burnt. A long tear was running on the front of the Dreadnought, and the adamantium was crumple around. What had enough power to do so ? Putting his hand on the damage, the Sergeant felt a liquid under his fingers. Could the sarcophagus be pierced ? Such a situation would have been catastrophic and risked to kill the brother-chaplain.
Brother Thoric, borhter Rhian, protect brother Kobal. Brother Marr, brother Derak, brother Lyis, come with me to the outside.
Thoric and Rhian positionned near the entrance and the rest of his team got out in the corridor to make for the exit of the caves. As they were aprroching the entrance of the subterraneans, Marr gestured to the squad to stop.
Brother Sergeant, the captors put at the entrance of the subterraneans show that someone is coming, he said.
Amith was beginning to prepare his squad to a firefight when he noted with horror that an eye had just appeared on the wall in front of him.

*****

The ship communication officer entered the armoury in whihch Tetran was quietly maintaining his bolter.
Lord Tetran, Sergeant Amith’s squad did found Chaplain’s Kobat. Techmarine reyan went down with the Thunderhawk in order to help the evacuation.
Well. You may go, officer, answered Tetran with a sigh.
The officer aknowledged and got out. Kobat ! How had this man become officer with such a lack of respect to the Adeptus Astartes ? But then, if you had to kill them every time, you would have emptied the entire cruiser before Emperor’s Day Eve…
Tetran had been Captain of the so-called « Third Company » for almost fourty-seven years. What an irony to call it « field company » instead of « survivor company ». In the main armoury were hanging the banners of Third, Fourth, Seventh and Tenth original companies from which came the actual members of the actual Third Company. The banner of the Fourth, in which Tetran had proved himself, showed a heart on a bloody gauntlet, circled with laurels.
Captain Tetran ? Board officer told me you were here, said the Inquisitor, entering the room.
Berion. I really should think about putting a door to this room.
It seem you found Kobal. I mean, Chaplain Kobal, he calmly corrected after a glare of Tetran. Have you been in contact with the Astropaths ? They feel the warp whirl. Well, the thing we know, captain.
Yes, Inquisitor. The thing you know.

*****

The sorcerer had been a better fighter than Amith thought : Derak had been cut into pieces by iridescent energies and one of his arms had melted with his bolter. But the heretics with him had had no chance against the Lamenter’s martial superiority.
Put a plasma charge on this wall. We will seal this entrance, in order to cut a route to the heretics.
The way out was only a hundred metres away, but there was no light outside, even if it was still a few hours before sunset. The Scouts got out under heavy rain, and put their protective glasses ; Marr switched on the mag-beacon.
*Thunderhawk, Scout-Sergeant Amith talking. Mag beacon on. Waiting for your arrival.*
*Thunderhawk Tear 1 … king. We got your… on the screen. We’ll try…land despite this storm… nd of communication.*
Amith wondered how a simple rain, seeing no other sign of a storm around. After a few moments, he noticed that his armour was covered with blood, and not only the one of the heretic. Looking closely to the dessert, he saw that human blood was raining on the planet.
